Abstract

Based on the Expectation-Value of Elections Model (Jacobs & Eccles, 2000) a qualitative analysis was done of mother-children interaction process associated to children school learning motivation. 12 mother/children couples participated, the children were on grades 2nd, 4th and 6th (boy and girl of each grade with high motivation and low motivation for the group equivalent). The children selection was done in accordance to the Scale of Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Orientation in the Classroom (Harter adaptation by Jiménez & Macotela, 2008). The mother- children interaction was videotaped while the kid did homework and after, both were interviewed aside from the other group members. Results show that high motivation kid support is done with enthusiasm, care and dedication; home environment is much favorable. Mothers with low motivation kids, limit their support to homework supervision, critic is used often. Conclusion: the design of programs that promote learning motivation at home is highly recommended.
